Make an afternoon, a day or even a weekend and surprise your sweetie with a trip to a festival celebrating everything chocolate. You never know what sweet treasures you will find. And your sweetie will feel like they have died and gone to heaven… literally.

Romance, love and decadence all under one roof!

Chocolate festivals are a perfect date destination. Festivals are filled with plenty chocolate activities such as chocolate tastings, theme night events/gala, meet and greet the chocolatiers, chocolate pairings, chocolate tours, chocolate sampling, product demonstrations and much, much more.

Look for them advertised in your local newspaper or online. If there isn’t one in your local area, find out if there is one in a nearby city or town. Alternatively, make a Chocolate Date weekend trip with your sweetie to a city you’ve never been that is hosting the festival.

Here’s just a couple of places and websites to check out:

USA

 International Chocolate Salon – http://internationalchocolatesalon.com
They host a number of festivals throughout the year at various cities.

Northwest Chocolate Festival – http://nwchocolate.com

Canada

West Coast Chocolate Festival non-profit Society in British Columbia, BC – http://www.chocolatefestival.ca

Toronto Chocolate Festival – http://www.torontochocolatefestival.com

Fête du chocolat, Bromont, Quebec – www.feteduchocolat.ca

Europe / UK

International Chocolate Exhibition in Perugia – http://www.eurochocolate.com/perugia2012

Festivals in the UK – Bristol, London, Brighton, and Oxford – http://www.festivalchocolate.co.uk

Here are some tips:

1. Be sure to have a snack or a light meal before going to help curb the sugar overload you may get.

2. Carry a small container. If the sample pieces are too big and just want to take a small bite just to taste, you can put the leftover in your container instead of trying to find a garbage can.

3. Bring a bottle of water to drink in case this is not available at the festival. It is not only good for dehydration, but for cleansing the palette between each chocolate piece.

4. You can easily get caught in the ‘your eyes are bigger than your stomach’ syndrome as there are an abundance of chocolate for you to devour. You may experience chocolate overwhelm so pace yourselves.
