Hmmm… chocolate! There’s something sexy about melted chocolate. It’s so effortlessly smooth and decadent. Now imagine a date night with your sweetie feeding each other food dipped in this smooth decadence. Talk about fun and sensual.

We’re heating your date with a chocolate fondue night.

Mercedes G: “If done right, fondue is the best dinner party meal.”

Having chocolate fondue is one of the easiest ways of incorporating chocolate on your date. Use a fondue set or melt chocolate in a pot or double boiler on low heat. Click here for how-to instructions. You get to make your own rules on whether double dipping is allowed.

Here are some ideas to get you started:

Savory Chocolate Fondue – Use a savory chocolate sauce and dip in pieces of cooked lamb, venison, chicken, lobster or beef…whatever your heart desires.

1. Use savory chocolates both in milk and white chocolate.

You can find chocolate bars made with spices such as rosemary, sea salt, or black pepper and meats such as bacon or beef. Just to name a few. You can melt these bars down on low heat and voila a savory chocolate dinner. Visit your local chocolatier for these specialty bars.

2.Traditional Mexican mole sauce

Mole is a savory sauce made with many different spices including chocolate. This makes the perfect savory fondue base that you can make your own or buy a jar in your local supermarket that you can pour into the fondue pot.

3. Sweet Chocolate Fondue – Melt your favorite chocolate using milk, dark or white chocolate bars.

Amazon Swiss Knight Chocolate Fondue

You can also look for chocolate that is specifically made as “fondue chocolate” and is available at local chocolate retail stores or in the baking section at the supermarket. Follow the directions on the package.

Prepare a platter of bite-sized pieces of marshmallows, candies, fruit (berries, orange slices etc…) and baked sweets (cookies, wafers, cake etc…)

1. Consider adding other delicacies such as chocolate caramel or flavored-infused caramels to the melted chocolate.

2. Have one fondue pot with dark chocolate and swirl in (rather than mix) melted white chocolate so that as you dip, you pull out a two-colored chocolate treat.

3. Have small bowls/plates of toppings you are dip your fruit into like sprinkles, shredded coconut, finely chopped nuts, and sesame seeds.

“I only recognize two food groups: fruit and chocolate. And if it’s fruit, it should be dipped in chocolate.” – Anonymous

There’s not much involved in setting up a fondue date night and can be set up on a spontaneous whim. You can use this idea again and again. To add some newness to the date, try experimenting with different kinds of chocolates. Treat you and your sweetie a night of decadence.

Looking for a fun, easy and creative way to tell your sweetie how much you care about them?

Or do you find the cat gotten your tongue? You may find words just don’t come out easily and all you want to do is express yourself to capture your sweetie’s heart.

Why not add some newness in your expression to bring out the spontaneity and romance to the relationship. Since we are dealing with chocolate why not make it delicious too!

Most times you don’t need an extravagant presentation. Simple gestures will do to melt your sweetie’s heart as a great reminder how special, wanted and needed in your life. People love to be told how much their sweetie loves and appreciates them.

Here’s a creative idea using icing and decadent treats. Extra brownie points if the treats are your sweetie’s faves.

All you will need:

1 tube(s) of icing you can pick up from any supermarket in the baking aisle or in a baking supplies shop.

1 box of treats such as cupcakes, truffles, or anything mini that has a flat surface, bars (such as brownies, Nanaimo bars).

Get a few bars (if they are too big you can cut them into small pieces) and using the icing tube like a pen, write a letter on each piece to form your personalized message.

Here’s an example of what Theo Chocolate has done as an example to follow:

Tip:

1. Keep your message simple otherwise you will have a lot to write onto.

2. You can use more than one icing colour to add some fun.

3. If you make a mistake you can use a butter knife to wipe the icing off.

4. Treats can be brought or you can make them yourself to make them extra special.

You can whip these up in no time and no baking is required especially if time is of the essence. Plus it’s an idea you can use over and over again using different messages and treats.

Let these treats express the message without you having to say a word and leave an impression of love and romance. It’s all about K.I.S.S. – Keep It Sweet and Simple.

Cuddle with Your Sweetie for a Chocolate Movie Date Night

Cuddle with Your Sweetie for a Chocolate Movie Date Night

 – by Mon Sun Chan | www.TheChocolateDate.com ©2012

Sometimes we have those days when Life gets so busy that all you want to do is come home and relax in comfort of your sweetie’s arms. Disconnect from the computer, boss, clients, co-workers, emails, phone calls… the world. But what to do on date night Friday or Saturday when you are just too tired to go out and paint the town red? Both of you still want to have fun and be entertained without the additional stress of planning . Just an easy and simple evening. Chocolate… take us away! Let’s keep it simple and do an oldie but goodie date idea… movie night. But not just any old movie. Something with chocolate of course. Check out the most popular chocolate themed movies.

Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (1971 Fantasy)

Amazon: “Having proven itself as a favorite film of children around the world, Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory is every bit as entertaining now as it was when originally released in 1971. There’s a timeless appeal to Roald Dahl’s classic children’s novel… It’s really the story of the impoverished Charlie Bucket, who, along with four other kids and their parental guests, wins a coveted golden ticket to enter the fantastic realm of Wonka’s mysterious confectionery. After the other kids have proven themselves to be irresponsible brats, it’s Charlie who impresses Wonka and wins a reward beyond his wildest dreams.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2005 Fantasy)

Amazon: Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, about eccentric chocolatier Willy Wonka (Johnny Depp) and Charlie, a good-hearted boy from a poor family who lives in the shadow of Wonka’s extraordinary factory. Acclaimed director Tim Burton brings his vividly imaginative style to the beloved Roald Dahl classic Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, about eccentric chocolatier Willy Wonka (Depp) and Charlie, a good-hearted boy from a poor family who lives in the shadow of Wonka’s extraordinary factory. Long isolated from his own family, Wonka launches a worldwide contest to select an heir to his candy empire. Five lucky children, including Charlie, draw golden tickets from Wonka chocolate bars and win a guided tour of the legendary candy-making facility that no outsider has seen in 15 years. Dazzled by one amazing sight after another, Charlie is drawn into Wonka’s fantastic world in this astonishing and enduring story.

Forrest Gump

Note: Now, I know it isn’t exactly about chocolate but there is one line that has become one of the world’s most popular quote said by Forest Gump: My momma always said, “Life was like a box of chocolates. You never know what you’re gonna get.”

Amazon: The Academy Award winner for Best Picture, Best Director Robert Zemeckis, and Best Actor Tom Hanks, this unlikely story of a slow-witted but good-hearted man somehow at the center of the pivotal events of the 20th century is a funny and heartwarming epic. Hanks plays the title character, a shy Southern boy in love with his childhood best friend (Robin Wright) who finds that his ability to run fast takes him places. As an All-Star football player he meets John F. Kennedy; as a soldier in Vietnam he’s a war hero; and as a world champion Ping-Pong player he’s hailed by Richard Nixon. Becoming a successful shrimp-boat captain, he still yearns for the love of his life, who takes a quite different and much sadder path in life. The visual effects incorporating Hanks into existing newsreel footage is both funny and impressive, but the heart of the film lies in its sweet love story and in the triumphant performance of Hanks as an unassuming soul who savors the most from his life and times. –Robert Lane

Chocolat

The novel was adapted for film in 2000, directed by Lasse Hallström and starring Juliette Binoche, Judi Dench, Alfred Molina, Lena Olin and Johnny Depp. Chocolat is a 1999 novel by Joanne Harris. It tells the story of Vianne Rocher, a young mother, who arrives at a fictional insular French village of Lansquenet-sous-Tannes with her six-year-old daughter, Anouk. Vianne opens La Céleste Praline, a small chocolaterie, and her confections quickly begin to change the lives of the townspeople through magic, setting up a conflict with Francis Reynaud, the parish curate. Chocolat is a recent contribution to the literary stream of Magic Realism.

Where to find these videos? Visit your local video rental store, watch them online, Pay Per View or borrow DVD/Blue Ray from friends/family.

More ideas to add more chocolate fun to your evening:

1. Treats – have a selection such as chocolate dipped potato chips, chocolate lollipops, chocolate covered nuts/fruit, chocolate covered popcorn, jobstopper, licorice, chocolate taffy, caramel, truffles and M&M’s/Reses Pieces.

2. Fondue – this requires some time and preparation but will be worth it in the end. Melt some chocolate in a fondue kit or place chocolate in a bowl then microwave. Have bite size treats for dipping like fresh fruit (strawberries are the best), cookies, cakes, marshmallows and savory items like pretzels, potato chips, even strips of cooked bacon. The options are endless. Here’s a recipe for a mocha chocolate fondue if you are wanting try a new flavor.

3. Guessing game – in the movie Chocolat, Vianne has an amazing ability to guess people’s chocolate faves. Can you guess your sweetie’s if you don’t know it already? Or get a box/package of assorted truffles and/or chocolates and hide the chocolate flavor legend/map. Each person has to take a bite of a treat and guess what the flavor is.

Sometimes a night at home cuddling with your sweetie, watching a good movie and enjoying some chocolate treats is what The Chocolate Date Diva ordered. K.I.S.S. – Keep It Simple and Sweet Have an awesome day and may it be filled with your sweetie’s love.

We can stuck enjoying the same old cause it tastes so good, but sometimes a little change is good to mix things up. Perhaps it’s time to try a new chocolate bar or visit a local chocolatier that has been getting raving reviews.  Chocolate is constantly evolving with invention and re-invention of new flavors.  And we are not just talking chocolate, how about ones with fruit, caramels, fudge and new single origins.

The best way to try out new chocolates without spending a lot of $$$ is attending a chocolate tasting event. You get to taste various types of chocolates without having to buy these especially if you don’t know how it will taste. Where to find these tasting events? Search online in your local area or ask the local chocolatiers if they will be hosting one in the near future.

Get together with your sweetie for a sweet rendezvous. You will never know where your taste buds will take you. Have fun tasting and experimenting.

Action Step:

Try one new chocolate bar or visit a new chocolatier per month to add some flavor to your regular mix.

Tip:

Chocolate is used for many celebrations and of course Valentine’s Day is no exception. After the special day is over, you can find holiday/seasonal chocolates usually 50%-75% off. This is another opportunity to not only stock up on your favorites but to try a new bar or chocolate box from your favorite chocolatier. You can enjoy a bit of luxury without breaking the bank.
